A federal judge has decided against a request from the Department of Justice to compel Google to divest its advertising exchange platform, AdX, thus permitting the tech giant to maintain an integral part of its advertising operations. This ruling came as Judge Leonie Brinkema approved most of the suggested restrictions on Google’s practices. The decision follows a 2025 ruling that determined Google had unlawfully preserved monopolies in the markets related to publisher ad servers and advertising exchanges.
The Justice Department, supported by several states, contended that due to Google’s previous conduct, it should no longer have control over AdX. In contrast, Google argued against the compelled sale, emphasizing that separating the platform from its operations would be technically challenging and could potentially disrupt service for its customers.
This outcome represents a further challenge for U.S. antitrust authorities in their efforts to dismantle major tech companies. Previous legal actions against other significant tech firms have similarly fallen short of achieving forced asset divestitures.
