Lidl Hungary has significantly expanded its operations with the launch of a new logistics hub in Kiskunfélegyháza. This substantial development was made possible through an investment of nearly 60 billion forints, equivalent to about €162 million. As the largest warehouse in the country for the retailer, this facility is set to play a crucial role in supplying approximately 70 Lidl stores across Hungary.

Spanning over 83,000 square meters, the logistics center is a major job creator, having already provided more than 400 employment opportunities. Lidl has plans to further increase its workforce with the addition of around 50 new employees in the coming months. The facility is well-equipped, featuring 194 loading docks and a refrigerated section covering 24,000 square meters.

Emphasizing sustainability and energy efficiency, the logistics center includes a 9,000-square-meter rooftop solar array and innovative technology that captures waste heat from its refrigeration units for underfloor heating. Additionally, a 10,000-square-meter biodiverse green area has been cultivated around the site, enhancing the environmental commitment of the facility.

This new center is designed to bolster Lidl’s supply chain within Hungary, with a daily distribution target of around 4,500 pallets of goods. Currently, Lidl operates 220 stores throughout the country, sourcing nearly 60% of its products from local suppliers. The enhanced logistics capabilities are expected to support the retailer’s ongoing expansion and reinforce its domestic market position.
